Possible Causes
Stuck run relay on control board, ATS not signaling utility return, Faulty utility sensing circuit, Controller programmed in manual mode
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Verify that utility power is stable and present. Use proper lockout/tagout before working in the ATS or control panel.
- 1. Check controller mode: Ensure the GE controller is set to AUTO, not MANUAL/TEST. In manual mode, the unit will not stop automatically.
- 2. Verify utility sensing: Confirm the controller indicates utility is present. If not, troubleshoot utility sensing fuses and wiring.
- 3. Observe ATS position: Check if the ATS has re-transferred to utility. If not, see ATS-related faults.
- 4. Force stop: Use the OFF button on the controller to stop the generator. If it continues to run, immediately disconnect the negative battery cable and contact a technician; a stuck run relay or wiring fault is likely.
