Possible Causes
Coolant leak in hoses or radiator, Loose radiator cap, Head gasket leak, Improper bleeding after service
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Only open the cooling system when the engine is cool. Wear gloves and eye protection.
- Inspect for leaks: Check all coolant hoses, clamps, radiator core, and water pump weep hole for signs of dried coolant or wet spots. Tighten clamps and replace leaking hoses.
- Check radiator cap: Inspect the cap seal and spring. Replace the cap if it is cracked, corroded, or does not hold pressure.
- Refill and bleed: Top off the radiator and reservoir with the correct coolant. Follow Generac procedures to bleed air from the system to prevent air pockets.
- Monitor level: After running the unit to operating temperature, shut down, cool, and recheck coolant level. Persistent loss may indicate internal leaks (e.g., head gasket) requiring professional diagnosis.
