Possible Causes

Empty or low fuel supply, Failed fuel solenoid, Ignition coil failure, Low battery voltage to starter

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Place the generator in OFF mode at the controller and open the main AC breaker to the house. Allow hot engine parts to cool before working. Do not smoke or use open flame near fuel.

  • Check fuel supply: Verify the LP or NG gas shutoff valve is fully open. For LP, confirm the tank is not empty and that the regulator is not frozen. For NG, ensure the gas meter valve is open and there is adequate gas pressure.
  • Inspect fuel solenoid operation: With the unit in MANUAL, listen for a click at the fuel shutoff solenoid when starting. If no click is heard, check the wiring harness and 12 VDC supply from the control board. Replace the fuel solenoid if it does not energize.
  • Check ignition: Remove a spark plug wire, install a known-good spark tester, and crank the engine. If there is no spark, suspect the ignition coil/module or low-voltage from the controller. Inspect the ignition coil connections and ground, and replace the coil if defective.
  • Verify battery and starter: Measure battery voltage at rest (should be around 12.6 V for 12 V systems). If below 12.0 V, charge or replace the battery. Inspect starter motor cables and grounds for corrosion or looseness.
  • Clear the alarm: After correcting issues, set the switch to OFF for 30 seconds, then back to AUTO to clear the Overcrank alarm and perform a test start.
