Possible Causes
Governor set too high, Sticking throttle linkage, Faulty electronic governor actuator, Incorrect controller calibration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate the generator from the load. Do not operate for long periods at high frequency.
- Inspect throttle linkage: Ensure the throttle plate returns to idle position when the engine is stopped. Lubricate and free any sticking linkage.
- Adjust governor setting: Using the service manual, adjust the governor to bring no-load frequency into specification. Make small adjustments and recheck with a frequency meter.
- Check actuator: If adjustments have no effect, test the electronic governor actuator for proper movement and current draw. Replace if defective.
- Controller calibration: Some models require controller programming for speed control. Have a Generac technician verify and recalibrate if needed.
