Generator shuts down during operation and displays E04; may occur when large loads are applied.

Safety first: Place the generator in OFF, open the main breaker on the generator output, and isolate the ATS. Do not work on live electrical circuits.

• Reduce load: Check the connected loads on the Genergy standby system. Turn off non‑essential high‑demand appliances (HVAC, electric water heaters, large motors) and ensure total kW does not exceed the generator's nameplate rating.
• Inspect air filter and intake: Remove the air filter cover and check for a clogged or oil‑soaked filter. Replace if dirty. Ensure the intake grille on the enclosure is not blocked by leaves or snow.
• Check fuel supply pressure: For gas units, verify that gas pressure at the generator inlet meets Genergy specifications under load (requires a manometer and qualified technician). Low pressure can cause engine bogging.
• Examine governor linkage or stepper motor: Observe the governor arm while a helper starts the unit in MANUAL (no load). It should move smoothly as RPM stabilizes. Jerky or no movement may indicate a failing stepper motor or binding linkage.
• Test with no load: With the generator breaker OFF, start the unit and let it warm up. If E04 does not appear without load, the issue is likely overload or fuel/air restriction. If E04 appears even at no load, contact a Genergy technician for governor calibration.
