Possible Causes
Restricted exhaust outlet, Over‑rich fuel mixture, Blocked muffler or spark arrestor, Faulty exhaust temperature sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the generator OFF, allow the exhaust system to cool fully, and ensure the area is well ventilated. Do not touch the muffler or exhaust pipe while hot.
- Inspect exhaust outlet: Check that the Genergy exhaust termination is not blocked by snow, nests, or debris. Clear any obstructions and ensure the exhaust has the clearance specified in the installation manual.
- Check muffler and spark arrestor: Remove the spark arrestor screen (if equipped) and clean carbon buildup with a wire brush. Replace a collapsed or heavily corroded muffler.
- Evaluate fuel mixture: Excessive black smoke indicates rich mixture. Have a technician verify gas pressure and regulator settings. For carbureted LPG units, inspect the mixer for stuck choke or contamination.
- Inspect exhaust temperature sensor: Locate the sensor on the exhaust manifold or near the muffler inlet. Check wiring for heat damage and replace the sensor if readings are erratic in diagnostics.
- Retest under light load: After cleaning and repairs, clear E08 and run the generator with minimal load, gradually increasing while monitoring exhaust temperature alarms.
