Possible Causes
Defective AVR causing over‑excitation, Incorrect AVR sensing wiring, Loose or broken neutral reference, Control module calibration error
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the generator OFF, open the generator breaker, and isolate the ATS. High voltage can damage connected equipment.
- Verify sensing connections: Inspect the small‑gauge wires from the alternator output to the AVR and Genergy controller. Ensure correct phase and neutral connections as per the wiring diagram.
- Check neutral integrity: Loose or open neutral can cause unstable voltage. Tighten neutral lugs in the alternator junction box and at the controller terminal strip.
- Inspect AVR: Look for burn marks or swollen components on the AVR. If the unit shows physical damage or if voltage remains high with correct wiring, replace the AVR.
- Controller settings: In the Genergy controller menu (installer level), verify that nominal voltage and phase configuration match the generator nameplate. Incorrect settings can cause mis‑regulation.
- Retest with meter: After repairs, start the generator with the breaker OFF and confirm voltage is within ±5% of nominal before reconnecting loads.
