Possible Causes
Short from phase to ground in load wiring, Moisture ingress in generator or ATS, Damaged insulation on alternator windings, Faulty ground fault sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ground faults can present shock and fire hazards. Isolate both utility and generator sources and lockout/tagout before inspection.
- Inspect for moisture: Check inside the Genergy enclosure and ATS for signs of water, condensation, or corrosion. Dry components thoroughly and correct any roof or conduit leaks.
- Check load circuits: Disconnect downstream load feeders one by one and test insulation resistance to ground with a megohmmeter. Identify and repair any circuits with low insulation resistance.
- Inspect alternator: Visually inspect alternator windings for burn marks or contamination. If ground fault persists with all loads disconnected, the alternator may be compromised.
- Test ground fault sensor: Verify wiring to the ground fault CT or sensor. Replace the sensor if it falsely trips with known good circuits.
