Battery venting due to overcharge, Poor ventilation, Old battery leaking electrolyte
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Wear eye and hand protection. Turn OFF the generator and disconnect battery negative first, then positive.
Steps:
- Neutralize corrosion: Mix baking soda with water and apply to corroded areas on terminals and tray. Scrub with a brush and rinse with clean water.
- Inspect battery: Replace any battery that is cracked, bulging, or leaking.
- Check charger voltage: Verify the Gillette battery charger is not overcharging (around 13.2–13.6 V is typical). Adjust or replace if necessary.
- Protect terminals: After cleaning and reconnecting, coat terminals with dielectric grease or battery terminal spray.
