Possible Causes

Failed starter solenoid, Defective starter motor, Faulty start relay on controller PCB, Loose battery or ground cable

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and disconnect battery negative before working on the starter circuit.

Steps:

  • Check battery and cables: Verify battery voltage and inspect positive and negative cables from battery to starter and frame ground on the Gillette skid. Tighten and clean as needed.
  • Listen for click: When a start is commanded (with safety precautions), listen for a click at the starter solenoid. No click suggests a control or relay issue; a click with no crank suggests a bad starter motor.
  • Test start relay: In the control panel, locate the start relay. Check for 12 V at the coil when start is commanded. Replace the relay if the coil energizes but contacts do not close.
  • Starter replacement: If power reaches the starter but it does not turn, remove and replace the starter motor with an OEM unit.
