Possible Causes
Loose oil drain plug, Leaking oil filter seal, Valve cover gasket leak, Crankshaft seal leak
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and disconnect battery negative. Clean up spilled oil promptly to avoid slip hazards.
Steps:
- Identify source: Wipe down the engine and observe where fresh oil appears: around the oil filter, drain plug, valve cover, or front/rear seals.
- Drain plug and filter: Tighten the oil drain plug and oil filter by hand plus a small additional turn. Do not overtighten.
- Gaskets: If oil seeps from the valve cover gasket, replace the gasket and torque bolts to spec.
- Major seals: Leaks from crankshaft seals or rear main seals require engine disassembly and should be handled by a professional.
