Possible Causes
Incorrect AVR voltage setting, Faulty Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR), Loose stator winding connections, Shorted stator winding
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate generator from load and mains. Turn OFF and lock out the unit before opening the alternator terminal box.
- Check voltage reading: With the generator running unloaded, read phase-to-phase voltage on the controller and with a multimeter. Compare to the nameplate rating (e.g., 400 V).
- Inspect AVR settings: Locate the AVR in the alternator terminal box. Adjust the voltage potentiometer slightly while monitoring voltage. Do not exceed rated voltage.
- Inspect connections: Tighten all stator and AVR wiring terminals. Look for signs of overheating or discoloration.
- Test AVR: If voltage remains low or unstable, replace the AVR with a compatible Himoinsa-specified unit.
- Stator test (advanced): With power off, perform insulation resistance and winding resistance tests on the stator. If readings are abnormal, the alternator may require rewinding or replacement by a specialist.
