Possible Causes
Blocked alternator ventilation, Overload beyond rated kVA, Faulty alternator temperature sensor, High ambient temperature with inadequate cooling
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Allow the generator to cool before touching the alternator. Isolate from load and mains.
- Check load level: Review the kW/kVA load on the controller. Ensure it does not exceed the Himoinsa generator rating. Reduce non-essential loads if necessary.
- Inspect ventilation: Ensure air inlets and outlets on the canopy are clear. Remove debris and clean filters or grilles.
- Inspect alternator: Check for dust buildup on the alternator housing and cooling fan. Clean with dry compressed air.
- Check temperature sensor: Locate the alternator winding temperature sensor. Inspect wiring and test sensor resistance vs. temperature. Replace if readings are incorrect.
- Test under reduced load: Restart the generator with a lower load and monitor temperature alarms. Persistent E16 may indicate internal alternator issues requiring specialist service.
