Possible Causes
Insulation breakdown in cables, Moisture ingress in junction boxes, Incorrect neutral-earth bonding, Faulty earth fault relay or CT
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate generator and all downstream circuits. Use appropriate PPE when testing insulation.
- Inspect cables and junctions: Look for damaged insulation, water ingress, or contamination in cable terminations and junction boxes.
- Insulation resistance test: Use a megohmmeter to test insulation between phases and earth, and neutral and earth. Identify and repair low-resistance circuits.
- Check bonding: Verify that neutral-earth bonding is configured as per Himoinsa installation guidelines (TN, TT, etc.). Incorrect bonding can cause nuisance trips.
- Test earth fault relay: If fitted, test the earth fault relay and associated CT by injecting a test current. Replace faulty components.
- Re-test under load: After repairs, run the generator and gradually apply load while monitoring for E23.
