Possible Causes
Battery off-gassing due to overcharging, Coastal or high-humidity environment, Water intrusion, Lack of protective coatings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and disconnect battery negative first, then positive. Wear eye protection and gloves.
Steps:
- Clean battery terminals: Neutralize corrosion with a baking soda and water solution, then scrub with a wire brush. Rinse and dry.
- Check charger voltage: Ensure the Honeywell charger is not overcharging (should be around 13.2–13.8V). Replace charger if voltage is excessive.
- Protective spray: Apply battery terminal protectant and a light corrosion inhibitor to exposed metal surfaces.
- Improve sealing: Inspect enclosure seals and repair any gaps that allow salt spray or moisture inside.
