Possible Causes
Aged or sulfated starting battery, Failed battery charger, Loose or corroded battery terminals, Parasitic drain from accessories
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and open the DC fuse (if equipped) before working on the battery. Wear eye protection and gloves.
Steps:
- Visual inspection: Check the 12V battery for swelling, cracks, or leaking electrolyte. Replace if damaged.
- Clean terminals: Disconnect negative then positive cables. Clean corrosion from posts and clamps with a wire brush and baking soda solution. Reattach positive then negative and tighten securely.
- Measure voltage: With a multimeter, check battery voltage at rest. Below ~12.4V indicates a low or failing battery. Charge or replace as needed with the correct Honeywell-specified group and CCA rating.
- Check charger: With AC utility power present, measure voltage at the battery. It should be around 13.2–13.8V. If not, the onboard battery charger module may be faulty and require replacement.
- Clear alarm: After correcting, clear the Low Battery alarm and run a test start.
