Possible Causes

Insufficient oil after recent service, Oil consumption due to worn rings or seals, Unit not level causing false low reading, Faulty low oil level sensor (if equipped)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Ensure the generator is OFF and cool. Disconnect battery negative before adding oil.

Steps:

  • Verify level on level ground: Make sure the generator is sitting level. Check the oil level with the dipstick. If low, add the manufacturer-specified oil slowly and recheck.
  • Inspect for leaks: Look under the unit and around the base for oil puddles or wet areas. Repair any obvious leaks before running.
  • Check service history: If oil was recently changed, confirm the correct quantity was added and that the filter is tight.
  • Sensor check: If oil level is correct but the alarm remains, inspect the low oil level sensor (if your Honeywell model uses one) and its wiring. Reseat the connector. Replacement may be required if the sensor is stuck or shorted.
  • Clear alarm: After correcting the issue, clear the Low Oil alarm on the controller and run a short test.
