Possible Causes
Unresolved underlying start fault (fuel, ignition, compression), Controller safety lockout timer active, Faulty starter solenoid or wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly crank a non-starting engine; this can flood the engine and damage the starter. Turn the generator OFF and disconnect battery negative before inspecting wiring.
Steps:
- Identify root cause: Review prior alarms (Overcrank, Low Fuel, etc.) in the controller history. Address those issues first (fuel supply, ignition, etc.).
- Inspect starter circuit: Check the starter solenoid connections and cable from battery to starter on the Honeywell engine. Tighten any loose lugs and look for burnt terminals.
- Clear lockout: Most Honeywell controllers require moving the switch to OFF for 30 seconds, then back to AUTO to clear Starter Lockout. Consult the specific model manual.
- Test crank: Reconnect battery and attempt a manual start. If the lockout reoccurs immediately, the controller may be detecting a persistent fault and professional diagnosis is recommended.
