Possible Causes
Dirty carburetor or throttle body, Vacuum leak at intake manifold, Faulty governor adjustment, Contaminated fuel supply
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and shut off gas before working on the fuel system. Allow hot parts to cool.
Steps:
- Air filter: Replace a dirty air filter to ensure proper airflow.
- Inspect intake: Check for loose clamps or cracked hoses between air filter, throttle body, and intake manifold. Tighten or replace as needed.
- Clean throttle body: Remove the intake duct and clean the throttle plate and bore with appropriate cleaner (engine off). Avoid spraying directly into sensors.
- Fuel quality: For LP, ensure tank is not near empty and regulator is functioning. For NG, verify stable supply pressure.
- Governor linkage: Clean and lubricate linkage pivots lightly to prevent sticking.
