Possible Causes
Empty or low fuel tank, Blocked fuel filter, Air in fuel line, Faulty fuel level sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and disconnect the battery negative. Work in a well-ventilated area away from open flames or sparks.
- Check fuel level: Verify the actual fuel level in the Hyundai fuel tank using the dipstick or sight gauge, not just the panel reading. Refill with the correct fuel type (diesel or petrol as specified on the rating plate).
- Inspect for leaks: Follow the fuel line from tank to engine. Look for wet spots, cracked hoses, or loose clamps. Repair or replace damaged hoses.
- Replace fuel filter: Locate the inline or spin-on Hyundai fuel filter. Close any fuel shutoff valve, remove the old filter, and install a new OEM-equivalent filter. For diesel units, prime the system using the manual priming pump or bleed screw until fuel flows without bubbles.
- Check fuel level sender: If the tank is clearly full but the controller shows low fuel and triggers E04, inspect the wiring to the fuel level sensor on the tank. Clean the connector and reseat. Replace the fuel level sensor if readings remain inaccurate.
- Test run: Reconnect battery, clear E04, and start the generator in manual mode. Observe for stable running and absence of E04.
