Possible Causes

Failed glow plugs, Faulty preheat relay, Blown preheat fuse, Damaged glow plug wiring harness

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and disconnect battery negative. Allow engine to cool before touching glow plugs.

  • Check preheat fuse: Locate the preheat/glow plug fuse in the Hyundai control panel. Replace if blown and investigate for short circuits if it blows again.
  • Inspect preheat relay: Listen for a click from the glow plug relay when preheat is commanded. If no sound, test for control voltage at the relay coil. Replace the relay if it does not operate.
  • Test glow plugs: Disconnect the glow plug bus bar and measure resistance of each plug to ground. Replace any plug with open circuit or significantly different resistance from the others.
  • Check wiring: Inspect the glow plug harness for burnt insulation or loose connections. Repair as needed.
  • Retest cold start: After repairs, perform a cold start test and verify that the preheat indicator operates and E16 is cleared.
