Possible Causes
Open or misaligned door safety switch, Broken door switch wiring, Faulty door switch, Bent door frame preventing switch engagement
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure generator is OFF. Do not bypass safety switches permanently.
- Locate door switches: Hyundai standby generators often have magnetic or plunger switches on service doors. Inspect each switch for physical damage.
- Check alignment: Ensure the door fully closes and the actuator (magnet or plunger) lines up with the switch. Adjust latch or hinges if needed.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the switch wires back to the harness. Repair any broken or pinched wires.
- Test switch: Use a multimeter to verify that the switch changes state (open/closed) when the door is opened/closed. Replace faulty switches with Hyundai-approved parts.
- Clear E18: After repair, close all doors securely, clear the code, and attempt a start.
