Possible Causes
Partially discharged battery, Corroded battery terminals, High resistance in starter cable, Failing starter motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the generator OFF and disconnect battery negative before cleaning or tightening terminals.
- Battery test: Measure battery voltage at rest and during cranking. If voltage drops below ~9.6 V during crank, recharge or replace the battery.
- Clean terminals: Remove corrosion from battery posts and clamps with a wire brush. Reinstall and tighten clamps securely.
- Inspect cables: Check the positive cable to the starter and the engine ground strap for looseness, corrosion, or damaged insulation. Replace any overheated or stiff cables with Hyundai-specified gauge.
- Starter evaluation: If voltage at the starter is good but cranking remains slow, replace the starter motor with a Hyundai-compatible unit.
