Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch the generator to OFF. Allow the engine to cool. Keep all flames and sparks away from fuel components.
- Verify fuel supply: Check the fuel tank level or gas supply (LPG/NG) feeding the Hyundai Power standby generator. Ensure the manual fuel shutoff valve is fully open and that any external gas regulator is not iced or blocked.
- Inspect fuel lines: Look for kinks, cracks, or leaks in the fuel hose from the tank/regulator to the carburetor or fuel rail. Tighten loose clamps. Replace damaged hoses with Hyundai-approved fuel hose.
- Check fuel solenoid operation: Turn the key or controller to ON (without cranking) and listen/feel for a click at the fuel shutoff solenoid on the carburetor or injection pump. No click may indicate a failed solenoid or wiring issue. Verify 12 V at the solenoid connector when ON.
- Inspect spark plug and ignition coil: Remove the spark plug(s), inspect for fouling, heavy carbon, or fuel saturation. Clean or replace with the specified Hyundai Power plug type and gap. Check the ignition coil lead for cracks or loose connections.
- Bleed air (diesel models): For Hyundai Power diesel standby units, use the manual priming pump or bleed screw on the fuel filter housing to remove air from the system until fuel flows steadily.
If the unit still will not start after confirming fuel and spark, further diagnosis of the ECU and engine sensors is recommended by a qualified technician.
