Possible Causes
Faulty engine speed sensor, Sticking throttle or governor linkage, Defective Hyundai Power electronic governor module, Incorrect frequency calibration
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the generator OFF. Do not repeatedly attempt to start an overspeeding engine, as it can cause severe mechanical damage.
- Inspect throttle and governor linkage: With the engine off, move the throttle and governor arms by hand. They should move smoothly without binding. Clean any dirt or corrosion and lubricate pivot points lightly.
- Check speed sensor: Locate the engine speed (RPM) sensor near the flywheel or crankshaft. Inspect the wiring harness and connector for damage. Ensure the sensor is mounted at the correct gap from the target wheel as specified by Hyundai Power.
- Controller frequency setting: Verify that the controller is configured for the correct frequency (50 Hz or 60 Hz) for your region. Incorrect settings can cause false overspeed detection.
- Test without load: Start the generator in MANUAL with no load connected and observe the frequency/voltage. If the engine immediately races, the governor module or mechanical governor may have failed and should be serviced by a technician.
