Possible Causes
Total connected load exceeds generator rating, Short circuit in load wiring, Faulty Hyundai Power circuit breaker, Incorrect transfer switch wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the generator OFF and isolate it from the building electrical system at the transfer switch. Only qualified persons should work inside electrical panels.
- Reduce load: Identify and turn off non-essential loads (HVAC, electric water heaters, large motors) on the building panel. Restart the generator and reapply loads gradually.
- Inspect generator breaker: Check the main Hyundai Power generator circuit breaker on the unit. If it has tripped, reset it once. If it trips again immediately with minimal load, suspect a short or faulty breaker.
- Check for shorts: With the generator off, inspect the output cables from the generator to the transfer switch for damage, burns, or loose lugs. Repair any damaged conductors.
- Verify transfer switch wiring: Ensure that the Hyundai Power automatic transfer switch (ATS) is wired according to the installation manual. Miswiring can cause backfeeding and overcurrent.
- Breaker replacement: If the breaker is hot to the touch, shows signs of burning, or trips at low current, replace it with the correct Hyundai Power OEM breaker.
