Possible Causes
Loose or damaged CAN communication cable, Faulty Hyundai Power control module, Faulty engine ECU, Incorrect termination on CAN bus
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and disconnect battery negative before unplugging control modules.
- Inspect CAN wiring: Locate the twisted-pair CAN bus cable between the controller, engine ECU, and any expansion modules. Check for cuts, abrasions, or crushed sections.
- Check connectors: Reseat all CAN connectors, ensuring they click into place. Look for bent pins or corrosion.
- Verify termination: Ensure that termination resistors are installed at the ends of the CAN bus as specified by Hyundai Power. Missing or extra terminators can cause communication faults.
- Module isolation: Disconnect non-essential CAN devices one at a time to identify a faulty module that is pulling down the bus.
- Controller/ECU replacement: If wiring is intact and E16 persists, the control module or engine ECU may be defective and require replacement by an authorized service center.
