Possible Causes
Engine oil level low, Faulty oil pressure switch, Damaged oil pump or blocked oil pickup screen, Wiring fault between oil pressure switch and controller
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn the generator OFF, disconnect the battery negative cable, and ensure the unit cannot start automatically. Allow the engine to cool fully before working around the engine.
- Step 1 – Check oil level: Remove the dipstick on the Kipor engine, wipe it clean, reinsert fully, then check the level. Top up with the manufacturer‑specified engine oil (typically 10W‑30 or 15W‑40 depending on model and climate) to the FULL mark. Do not overfill.
- Step 2 – Inspect for oil leaks: Look around the oil filter, drain plug, crankcase gasket, and oil cooler (if equipped) for fresh oil. Repair obvious leaks and retest.
- Step 3 – Test the oil pressure switch: Locate the oil pressure switch on the engine block (usually near the oil filter on Kipor standby units). Disconnect its wire and check continuity to ground with a multimeter. With engine OFF, most low‑oil switches are closed to ground; if it reads open or shorted in all conditions, replace the switch.
- Step 4 – Inspect wiring: Trace the harness from the oil pressure switch back to the Kipor digital controller. Look for pinched, chafed, or corroded connectors. Repair or replace damaged wiring and clean terminals.
- Step 5 – If oil level and switch are OK but E01 persists: Do not continue cranking. Internal oil pump or bearing issues may be present. Contact a qualified generator technician for an oil pressure test with a mechanical gauge.
