Possible Causes

Low coolant level (liquid‑cooled models), Blocked radiator or cooling fins, Failed radiator fan or fan belt, Faulty engine temperature sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect battery negative, and allow the engine to cool completely. Never open a hot radiator cap.

  • Step 1 – Check coolant level (liquid‑cooled Kipor models): Once cool, remove the radiator cap slowly. Coolant should be near the filler neck. If low, inspect for leaks at hoses, water pump, and radiator. Top up with the recommended coolant mix and bleed air if required.
  • Step 2 – Inspect radiator and air passages: Remove any debris, dust, or leaves from the radiator fins and generator enclosure louvers. Use low‑pressure compressed air from the inside out to clean fins; avoid bending them.
  • Step 3 – Verify fan operation: On start‑up, confirm that the electric radiator fan (or belt‑driven fan) runs and pulls air through the radiator. Replace a failed fan motor or tighten/replace a loose or broken fan belt.
  • Step 4 – Check temperature sensor: Locate the engine coolant temperature sensor on the cylinder head or thermostat housing. Inspect the connector for corrosion. If the sensor is suspected faulty (E02 appears even when engine is cold), test resistance against Kipor specs and replace if out of range.
  • Step 5 – Confirm ventilation: Ensure the generator room or enclosure has adequate intake and exhaust airflow per Kipor installation guidelines. Remove obstructions and verify louvers are open.
