Possible Causes
Weak or discharged battery, Faulty starter motor or solenoid, Fuel supply issue, Glow plug or ignition failure (depending on fuel type)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disable automatic start and disconnect battery negative before working on the starter circuit.
- Step 1 – Check battery condition: Measure battery voltage at rest; it should be around 12.6 V for a fully charged 12 V battery. Clean corroded terminals and tighten clamps. Charge or replace the battery if voltage is low.
- Step 2 – Inspect starter connections: Verify the heavy cables at the starter motor and starter solenoid are tight and free of corrosion. Repair any burnt or loose terminals.
- Step 3 – Listen during crank: If you hear a click but no crank, the solenoid or starter may be faulty. If there is no sound, check the starter relay and fuses in the Kipor controller panel.
- Step 4 – Verify fuel and preheat: Confirm there is adequate fuel and that the fuel solenoid opens when cranking. On diesel models, ensure glow plugs receive power during preheat. Replace failed glow plugs or ignition components as needed.
- Step 5 – Clear lockout: After correcting the issue, reset the controller (usually by turning OFF then ON or using the RESET key) and attempt a start. If E05 persists, have a technician test the starter current draw and controller outputs.
