Possible Causes
Restricted exhaust system, Overloading causing high EGT, Faulty exhaust temperature sensor, Insufficient cooling airflow around exhaust
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow exhaust components to cool completely before touching. Exhaust surfaces can cause severe burns.
- Step 1 – Reduce load: Confirm that the connected load is within the generator's continuous rating. Remove non‑essential loads and retest.
- Step 2 – Inspect exhaust system: Check for crushed exhaust pipes, blocked muffler, or foreign objects at the outlet. Clear any obstructions.
- Step 3 – Check exhaust temperature sensor: Locate the EGT sensor on the exhaust manifold or outlet. Inspect wiring and connector. Replace the sensor if wiring is intact and E18 occurs even at low load and normal operation.
- Step 4 – Verify ventilation: Ensure the generator room or enclosure has adequate exhaust clearance and that hot air is not recirculating back into the intake.
