Possible Causes

Emergency stop pushbutton engaged, Open circuit in emergency stop wiring loop, Faulty emergency stop contact block, Loose terminal in control panel safety chain

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Ensure the generator cannot start unexpectedly. Set controller to OFF and disconnect battery negative before opening the control panel.

  • Check E-stop button: Locate the red emergency stop pushbutton on the Kohler-SDMO canopy or control panel. Twist or pull to reset it if latched.
  • Inspect contacts: Open the E-stop enclosure and inspect the contact block. Verify continuity across the normally closed contacts when the button is released.
  • Trace safety loop: Using the wiring diagram, trace the emergency stop loop from the E-stop to the APM controller terminals. Tighten any loose screw terminals and repair broken wires.
  • Bypass test (for diagnosis only): Temporarily bridge the E-stop input at the controller to confirm the alarm clears. Remove the bypass immediately after testing and restore proper safety function.
  • Reset and test: Reconnect battery, clear AL08, and test start in MANUAL then AUTO modes.

Never operate the generator with the emergency stop circuit bypassed; replace any defective E-stop components.
