Possible Causes
Clogged air filter element, Collapsed intake hose, Blocked air intake grille in canopy, Faulty air restriction switch
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Stop the generator and ensure the engine cannot start automatically. Allow moving parts to stop completely.
- Inspect air filter: Open the air filter housing on the Kohler-SDMO engine. Remove the primary filter element and inspect for heavy dust or oil contamination. Replace with a genuine element if dirty.
- Check intake ducting: Inspect the intake hose between filter and turbocharger/manifold for collapse or blockage. Replace damaged hoses.
- Clean intake grilles: Remove debris from canopy intake louvers and sound-attenuated ducts.
- Check restriction switch: If equipped with an air restriction switch, inspect wiring and reset/replace the switch if it remains triggered with a clean filter.
- Reset alarm: Clear AL19 and run the generator, checking for normal intake sound and performance.
Operating with a clogged air filter increases fuel consumption and smoke; maintain filters per Kohler-SDMO service intervals.
