Possible Causes
Air in fuel system, Clogged fuel filters, Fuel shutoff solenoid not energizing, Low compression or injector issues
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disable AUTO mode and disconnect battery negative before working on fuel or starter circuits.
- Confirm cranking speed: Ensure the engine cranks briskly. If slow, test and charge/replace the battery.
- Check fuel supply: Verify there is fuel in the tank and that any fuel shutoff valves are open.
- Bleed fuel system: Use the manual priming pump to bleed air from the primary and secondary filters and the injection pump bleed screws until fuel is free of bubbles.
- Test fuel solenoid: During a start attempt, measure voltage at the fuel shutoff solenoid. If no voltage, trace back to the controller and crank relay. If voltage is present but no movement, replace the solenoid.
- Observe exhaust: If there is no smoke during cranking, fuel is not reaching cylinders. If there is white smoke but no start, suspect compression or timing and call a technician.
Do not crank continuously for long periods; allow the starter to cool between attempts to avoid damage.
