Generator is excessively noisy compared to normal operation

Safety first: Keep clear of moving parts and hot exhaust. Use hearing protection when working near a running generator.

• Inspect mounts: With engine off, check engine and alternator mounting bolts and anti-vibration mounts on the Kohler-SDMO baseframe. Tighten or replace as needed.
• Check exhaust system: Inspect the silencer, flexible exhaust coupling, and hangers for cracks or loose joints. Repair or replace damaged components.
• Listen to engine: Run the generator and localize the noise (top end, bottom end, alternator). Knocking or metallic noises may indicate internal engine wear and require a technician.
• Fuel quality: Poor fuel can cause rough running. Replace fuel filters and ensure clean diesel supply.

Do not ignore new or worsening mechanical noises; they often precede major failures.
