Possible Causes

Restricted fuel supply line, Blocked tank vent, Weak fuel lift pump, Contaminated fuel with water or sludge

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Set controller to OFF and secure the generator before working on the fuel system.

  • Check tank vent: Open the fuel tank cap and attempt a start. If the engine runs longer, the tank vent may be blocked; clean or replace it.
  • Inspect fuel filters: Replace primary and secondary filters and drain any water from bowls.
  • Check fuel lines: Look for collapsed hoses or partially closed valves between tank and engine. Replace damaged hoses.
  • Test lift pump: With the line disconnected at the filter inlet, briefly crank the engine and observe fuel flow. Weak or no flow indicates a failing lift pump that should be replaced.
  • Fuel quality: If contamination is suspected, sample fuel from the bottom of the tank. Arrange for tank cleaning and fuel polishing if necessary.

Repeated stalling under load after these checks suggests injection pump or governor issues requiring professional service.
