White smoke from exhaust, especially on startup

Safety first: Operate in a well-ventilated area. Avoid prolonged idling with heavy white smoke.

• Preheat system: Verify engine preheater or glow plugs are functioning and allow adequate preheat time before cranking.
• Fuel quality: Drain water from fuel filters and check for water in tank. Replace contaminated fuel.
• Load application: After warm-up, apply a moderate load to raise cylinder temperatures and observe if smoke clears.
• Injector/compression: If white smoke persists when warm, have injectors tested and engine compression checked by a technician.

Continuous white smoke may indicate serious engine problems; do not ignore.
