Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn generator OFF and open main breaker. Disconnect battery negative before working on charger wiring.
- Verify AC supply: Check the breaker or fuse feeding the charger from the utility panel or internal control box. Reset or replace if tripped/blown.
- Inspect charger: Locate the charger module. Check for indicator LEDs (if equipped). No lights may indicate no power or internal failure.
- Measure output: With AC power present and battery connected, measure DC voltage at the charger output terminals. If 0 V or far below spec, the charger is likely failed.
- Check wiring: Tighten all DC output connections from charger to battery. Look for damaged insulation or corrosion.
If the charger has failed, replace it with a Kohler-specified charger of the same rating. Until replaced, periodically charge the battery with an external charger to maintain starting capability.
