Possible Causes

Low coolant level, Blocked radiator fins, Failed radiator fan or fan relay, Stuck thermostat or failed water pump

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn generator OFF, open main breaker, disconnect battery negative, and allow engine to cool fully.

  • Coolant level: Check and top up coolant in the expansion tank and radiator when cool.
  • Radiator cleaning: Inspect radiator fins for dirt, leaves, or bugs. Clean gently with low-pressure air or water from the back side.
  • Fan operation: During a test run, observe whether the electric fan engages at operating temperature. If not, test the fan relay and fan motor.
  • Thermostat and pump: If overheating persists, the thermostat may be stuck closed or the water pump may be failing. These components should be tested and replaced by a technician.

Do not operate the generator with a known overheating issue; severe engine damage can result.
