Possible Causes

Block heater not functioning, Ambient temperature very low, Faulty coolant temperature sensor, Thermostat stuck open

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn generator OFF and open main breaker.

  • Verify heater power: Ensure the block heater circuit is energized and that any GFCI or breaker feeding it is not tripped.
  • Check heater operation: After being powered for an hour, hoses near the heater should be warm. Replace the heater if cold.
  • Sensor check: Inspect the coolant temperature sensor and wiring for corrosion or damage. Replace sensor if readings are clearly incorrect compared to actual engine temperature.

In very cold climates, consider additional enclosure heating or insulation as recommended by Kohler.
