Possible Causes
Weak battery, High resistance in battery cables, Failing starter motor, Seized or partially seized engine
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn generator OFF, open main breaker, and disconnect battery negative.
- Battery check: Test battery voltage and load capacity. Replace if weak.
- Inspect cables: Check battery cables for corrosion, loose lugs, or damaged insulation. Clean and tighten all connections from battery to starter and ground.
- Starter test: If battery and cables are good but cranking is still slow, the starter motor may be worn. Listen for grinding or clicking noises.
- Engine rotation: With spark disabled and fuel off, attempt to rotate the engine by hand (using proper tools) to ensure it is not seized.
Starter replacement or internal engine issues should be handled by a qualified technician.
