Possible Causes
No fuel reaching engine, Ignition coil or spark plug failure, Faulty crankshaft position sensor, Fuel solenoid not opening
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn generator OFF, close gas valve, and open main breaker before inspecting fuel or ignition components.
- Smell for fuel: After a few crank attempts, a slight fuel smell at the exhaust is normal. No smell may indicate no fuel; strong raw gas smell may indicate flooding.
- Check gas valves: Ensure manual gas shutoff valves are open and regulators are functioning.
- Ignition components: Inspect spark plug wires and coils for damage. Replace spark plugs if fouled or worn.
- Fuel solenoid: Listen for a click from the fuel solenoid when start is commanded. If absent, check wiring and solenoid coil.
Advanced diagnosis (fuel pressure, spark testing, sensor signals) should be done by a qualified technician.
