Possible Causes

Failed AVR, Open field winding, Broken excitation wiring, Tripped or failed main breaker

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Confirm the generator is isolated from the building and utility. Lock out the main breaker before opening covers.

  • Check main breaker: Verify the generator main breaker is in the ON position and not tripped. Reset if necessary. If it will not reset, replace the breaker.
  • Measure voltage at alternator: With the generator running, carefully measure voltage at the alternator output terminals. If zero, suspect excitation issues.
  • Inspect AVR and wiring: Remove the alternator cover and inspect the AVR and field wiring for burns or loose connections. Tighten terminals and replace damaged wires.
  • Field flashing (advanced): Some alternators may require field flashing if they have lost residual magnetism. This should be done only by a qualified technician following Kubota procedures.
  • Replace AVR: If all wiring is intact and there is still no output, replace the AVR with the correct Kubota-specified part.
