Possible Causes

Open stator winding in Lifan alternator, Failed automatic voltage regulator (AVR), Loose alternator output connections, Faulty rotor excitation circuit or brushes (if brush-type)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Isolate the generator from the building by opening the main transfer switch. Turn OFF the generator and disconnect battery negative. High voltage is present inside the alternator.

  • Inspect main output connections: Open the alternator terminal box on the Lifan generator. Check that all phase and neutral lugs are tight and free of discoloration or burning. Tighten loose lugs and replace any overheated wiring.
  • Check AVR connections: Locate the Lifan AVR module inside the alternator housing or control box. Ensure its plug is fully seated and wires are not damaged. Look for burnt components or a swollen casing; if present, replace the AVR module.
  • Measure stator resistance: With the unit off and isolated, use a multimeter to measure resistance between stator leads. Compare to Lifan specifications. An open or shorted winding indicates a failed alternator stator.
  • Brushes and slip rings (if applicable): On brush-type alternators, inspect the brushes for wear and ensure they move freely in their holders. Clean slip rings with fine emery cloth. Replace worn alternator brushes if below minimum length.
  • Test excitation: After reassembly, start the generator and measure AC output at the terminals with a meter. If still zero and E06 remains, the alternator may require professional rewinding or replacement.
