Possible Causes

Blocked exhaust outlet, Overloaded engine causing high exhaust temp, Faulty exhaust temperature sensor, Damaged exhaust insulation causing heat buildup

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, disconnect battery negative, and allow the exhaust system to cool completely. Exhaust components can cause severe burns.

  • Inspect exhaust outlet: Ensure the Lifan generator exhaust pipe and rain cap are not blocked by nests, debris, or ice. Clear any obstructions.
  • Check load level: Review connected loads to ensure the generator is not consistently running above its rated kW, which can raise exhaust temperatures.
  • Exhaust sensor inspection: Locate the exhaust temperature sensor on the muffler or exhaust pipe. Inspect wiring for heat damage or disconnection. Replace the exhaust temperature sensor if the wiring is intact but the sensor tests open/shorted.
  • Ventilation: Confirm that the generator enclosure has adequate ventilation and that hot exhaust gases are not recirculating into the intake area.
  • Test run: After corrections, clear E18 and run the generator under normal load while monitoring for recurrence.
