Possible Causes
Partially discharged battery, High resistance in battery cables, Seized starter motor, Engine internal drag due to thick oil or mechanical damage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and isolate from utility power. Wear eye protection when working with batteries.
- Measure battery voltage under crank: Connect a multimeter to the battery and attempt to start. If voltage drops below ~9.6 V, charge or replace the starting battery.
- Inspect cables and grounds: Check the positive cable from battery to starter and the engine ground strap. Clean and tighten all connections. Replace corroded battery cables.
- Check starter for binding: If cables and battery are good, remove the starter and bench test it. Replace the starter motor if it turns slowly or not at all on direct battery power.
- Oil viscosity: In very cold climates, ensure the oil grade meets Lifan’s cold-weather recommendation. Replace with lower-viscosity oil if necessary.
