Possible Causes
Battery charger voltage regulator failure, Incorrect charger settings, Loose battery sense wiring, Wrong charger model installed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Overcharging can cause batteries to vent gas. Ensure good ventilation and avoid sparks or flames.
- Measure DC voltage: Use a multimeter to confirm the actual battery voltage at the terminals. Compare to MTU’s specified float voltage.
- Inspect charger settings: On the MTU battery charger, verify that the output voltage and battery type settings match the installed batteries. Adjust if necessary.
- Check sense leads: If the charger uses remote sense wires, ensure they are correctly connected and not open or reversed.
- Replace faulty charger: If voltage remains above specification with correct settings, replace the charger with an MTU-approved model.
- Inspect batteries: Check batteries for swelling, excessive gassing, or electrolyte loss. Replace any damaged batteries.
- Reset alarm: After voltage is stabilized, clear the F09 alarm and monitor battery voltage over several hours.
