Possible Causes
Empty or contaminated fuel tank, Clogged fuel filter, Air in fuel lines, Failed electric fuel pump or fuel shutoff solenoid
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and main breaker. Work in a well‑ventilated area away from open flames. Wear eye protection and gloves when handling fuel.
- Step 1 – Verify fuel level and quality: Check the fuel gauge on the Multiquip tank. If low, add fresh fuel of the correct type (diesel or natural gas/LP per model). If fuel is old or contaminated with water or sludge, arrange for the tank to be pumped and cleaned.
- Step 2 – Inspect fuel shutoff valves: Confirm that all manual fuel shutoff valves between the tank and generator are fully open. For LP/natural gas units, ensure the gas supply valve at the meter or tank is open.
- Step 3 – Replace fuel filter: Locate the primary and/or secondary fuel filter on the engine. Close the fuel shutoff valve, remove the old filter, and install a new Multiquip‑specified filter. Prime the system using the manual priming pump (if equipped) until fuel flows without bubbles.
- Step 4 – Check fuel pump and solenoid: Turn the controller to RUN (no start) and listen for the electric fuel pump or fuel shutoff solenoid click. If silent, check the fuel pump fuse and wiring. Use a multimeter to verify 12V/24V supply at the pump connector. Replace the pump or solenoid if it does not operate with proper voltage present.
- Step 5 – Clear code and test: Clear E03 on the controller and attempt a manual start. If the engine starts and runs smoothly, monitor for recurrence. Persistent E03 after filter and pump checks may indicate injector or regulator issues that require a technician.
