Possible Causes

Failed starter motor, Defective starter solenoid, Loose starter cable connections, Faulty starter relay on controller board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn OFF the generator, open the main breaker, and disconnect the negative battery cable before working on the starter circuit.

  • Step 1 – Listen during crank attempt: Reconnect the battery temporarily and attempt a start while listening. A single click with no crank suggests a solenoid or battery issue; no sound suggests a control or relay problem; grinding suggests starter gear issues. Then disconnect the battery again.
  • Step 2 – Inspect starter connections: Locate the starter motor on the engine. Check that the large battery cable and smaller solenoid control wire are tight and free of corrosion. Clean and tighten as needed.
  • Step 3 – Test voltage at starter: With a helper and multimeter, reconnect the battery. During a crank command, measure voltage at the starter main terminal and solenoid terminal. Full battery voltage should be present. If voltage is present but the starter does not turn, the starter assembly is likely faulty.
  • Step 4 – Check starter relay and wiring: If no voltage reaches the starter, locate the starter relay in the Multiquip control panel. Inspect the relay and its connector. Test the relay coil for continuity and verify that the controller is sending a start signal. Replace the relay if defective.
  • Step 5 – Clear code and retest: After repairing wiring, relay, or replacing the starter, clear E07 and perform several start/stop cycles to confirm reliable operation.
