Possible Causes
Fuel shutoff solenoid not opening, Air in fuel system, Clogged fuel filter, Faulty ignition system (for gasoline models)
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF the generator and open the main breaker. Keep sparks and flames away from fuel components.
- Step 1 – Confirm basic conditions: Verify fuel level, battery voltage, and that the emergency stop is reset. Listen for the fuel solenoid click when turning the key or controller to RUN.
- Step 2 – Check fuel shutoff solenoid: Locate the solenoid on the injection pump or carburetor. With a multimeter, verify that it receives voltage during crank. If powered but not opening, replace the solenoid.
- Step 3 – Bleed air from fuel system (diesel): Use the manual priming pump and open bleed screws on the fuel filter housing until fuel flows without bubbles. Tighten screws and retry starting.
- Step 4 – Inspect ignition (gasoline): Remove a spark plug, reconnect its wire, and ground it to the engine block. Crank the engine and look for a strong blue spark. Replace ignition coil or plugs if spark is weak or absent.
- Step 5 – If still no start: Compression or timing issues may be present; contact a qualified technician for further diagnosis.
